This semester in Interior Materials 3311, not only did I learn about all the materials that will benefit my career path, but I had the advantage to see things first hand on each field trip. From silk, to all the different fibers, I think by knowing all the elements and principles of the materials used when designing a space you are more qualifiied to give advice over picking materials. Being a designer, your client will put their trust in you knowing the answers to all the questions asked when choosing what is the best matrial for the specific space. I have really learned that it is crucial to have the accurate material in the accurate space, because you are responsible for the outcome after it has been installed. Many clients these days spend 1,000's of dollars on their homes and businesses and you need to know what you are talking about. The most I learned in this course was by visiting and seeing fist hand where these materials actually come from before they pop up in many businesses and homes. You become easier to relate to when you can visualize each material and where they came from. Some of the field trips we had the advantage of visiting were the store, All About Looks where we learned about different fabrics and how to apply it, Collins Tile and Stone where we saw many large granite slabs, and Jeff Seal where we visited two exquisite Jeff Seal homes. With the help of a great teacher, I thoroughly enjoyed this class and truly think that I will use this for the rest of my career after I graduate from Tech.
